How Veterinary Practices Can Make the Most of National Pet Wellness Month

National Pet Wellness Month is a wonderful opportunity for veterinary practices to promote their services. You can use the event to share educational materials with clients, helping them learn more about using preventative care to improve their pets’ health.

Let Weave’s marketing and communications tools aid these efforts and more to boost the profile of your practice.

The Significance of National Pet Wellness Month for Veterinary Practices

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Fort Dodge Animal Health started this pet wellness event two decades ago. Observed every October, it emphasizes the importance of preventive care for pets. This initiative encourages owners to take steps to improve pet health. Your vet clinic can take advantage of the event to promote benefits to local clients.

Ongoing pet health exams can help with deadly infections from parasites like heartworms. According to the Animal Humane Society, heartworm infections are entirely preventable with preventive care.

Strategies for Veterinary Practices To Celebrate National Pet Wellness Month

As a veterinary practice manager, National Pet Wellness Month can be one of the most exciting times of the year. Treat your communications and marketing tools as a platform for pet health, giving pet owners specific steps they can take to keep their pets healthy. Here are some strategies to consider:

1. Promote Wellness Exams

A wellness exam gives pet parents peace of mind. Finding signs of disease as early as possible gives the pet the best chance at making a full recovery.

2. Ensure Vaccinations and Preventative Treatments Are Up to Date

Vaccinations keep pets safe from many different diseases. You can send automated reminders about vaccination schedules to give pet owners a nudge toward setting an appointment to maintain optimal health.

3. Hold Nutrition and Weight Management Campaigns

Clients may worry about keeping their pets at a healthy weight. Use the awareness month to promote the nutritional consultations you offer. Provide tips on finding the healthiest food for a pet’s diet, and explain the importance and challenges of maintaining the right weight during the pet’s aging process.

4. Launch Dental Health Initiatives

Dental health for pets is more important than many pet owners may realize. The proper marketing tools allow you to tout the benefits of regular dental care for young and senior pets by explaining some of the health issues that tooth decay in pets can cause.

5. Focus on the Mental and Emotional Well-Being of Pets

Pets that show signs of separation anxiety can frustrate owners. National Pet Wellness Month is the perfect opportunity to discuss some of your clinic’s anxiety and stress reduction strategies. Explain that some pets do well with anxiety medication, while others may need safe toys or increased activity before you can leave them at home unsupervised.

Leveraging National Pet Wellness Month for Long-Term Client Relationships

This pet wellness event may occur in October, but animal health is important year-round. Your focused promotional efforts during October can spark appointments all year long.

Delivering a consistent message about your preventative care options is helpful. Pet owners learn to trust you when you explain why preventative care matters for pet health. Discussions over pet health and a healthy diet can start during October’s events and continue throughout the year.

Your literature should also explain the importance of routine care during wellness month events. Catching common health problems early enhances your pet’s ability to recover. Help pet owners see the value of your services through marketing to maintain client loyalty.
