10 Dental Social Media Post Ideas That Work

Social media platforms play a profound role in every business’s digital marketing strategy.

Dental practices aren’t an exception to this growing trend. Whether you’re just starting your dental practice and looking for customers or you’ve run a dental office for some time now, including social media in your digital advertising is essential for building an online presence.

Creating an effective social media strategy, however, is not that straightforward. You need to know what to post and where to post. And while it may sound like an easy thing to do, creating unique dentistry social media posts takes some effort. And that’s exactly what we’re going to tackle in the following guide. Below, we’ll explain how to create an effective dental social media marketing strategy to build a strong online presence and help your dental practice thrive.

Top Social Media Channels Used by Dentists

As the popularity of social media continues to grow, so does the number of social media channels businesses can use to advertise their services. From Facebook and Instagram to TikTok and YouTube, dentists have a lot of options to reach potential patients. Each social media channel offers unique opportunities, as well as comes with its distinct pros and cons.

Here lies the first challenge any dental clinic has to face when building its social media presence. Which channel should you use? In most cases, using several platforms is more effective. Sticking to just one channel doesn’t make any sense, as it limits the number of potential customers you may reach.

Now, when it comes to dental social media marketing, there are three top social media channels that will provide you with the best results. We’ve listed them below:

1. Facebook Ads and Facebook Live

With approximately 2 billion people using Facebook every day, the platform offers an incredible opportunity for dentists to build a strong social media presence.¹ You can do that through standard dental Facebook page posts, Facebook ads, or Facebook live.

Now, standard social media posts involve classic written content and pictures you can post on your Facebook wall. They’re a great communication tool, allowing you to engage with your already established audience. However, if your goal is to reach new patients and expand your customer portfolio, Facebook ads and live features are the tools to use.

Facebook ads appear in the feed on desktop and mobile, as well as in the right column of the Facebook desktop version. They work similarly to Google Ads, displaying services or products in several different formats, including image ads, video ads, poll ads, carousel ads, and lead ads. They come with numerous advantages, providing dentists with a chance to target specific audiences and control their budget more efficiently.

Facebook Live, on the other hand, offers an entirely different experience. It allows you to broadcast a conversation, Q&A session, or virtual event. This way, dentists can connect with their audiences in real-time, creating a more engaging experience. Facebook even allows users to include interactive tools, such as live polls or featured links, providing dental practices and other businesses with a fantastic opportunity to connect with their patients more creatively.

2. Instagram Story

Instagram is a perfect platform to post more visually appealing content and reach younger audiences. However, besides standard dental posts for an Instagram page, dentists can also take advantage of by far the most powerful feature Instagram offers – Instagram Stories. They’ve become a force to be reckoned with in digital marketing, allowing businesses to post short stories and ads, as well as experiment with new content marketing features.

When it comes to using Insta-Stories in your dental marketing, they aren’t only a great tool to post appealing content, but also a place to explore what your target audience is posting. This will allow you to tailor your content better and grow your practice in a fun and engaging way. Creative dental Instagram post ideas can include ‘behind-the-scenes’ pictures and polls.

3. YouTube Video Content

Although some people claim that YouTube isn’t a social media platform, with all its current features, it has to be considered as one. More importantly, though, it’s a tremendous digital marketing tool for dentists. Dental businesses can use YouTube to create and publish exciting video content to keep their patients engaged.

Dental marketing video ideas include office tour videos, dental procedure demonstrations, or staff introduction videos. Indeed, the only limit here is your imagination, so be sure to experiment with different types of video content and see which suits your target audience best.

What Do Dentists Post on Social Media?

Various social media sites provide different opportunities for dental professionals to promote their practice. For instance, posting a Facebook ad will help you target new potential patients, whereas Instagram Stories can be used to keep your followers engaged and entertained.

Now that you know where to post your social media content, it’s time to get an idea of what to post. The key here is not to overcomplicate things, keep your posts diverse, and, most importantly, frequent. However, when it comes to potential ideas for your dental social media posts, the list is practically endless. This is why we’ve compiled seven ideas for creative dental posts that will help you get started with social media marketing, allowing you to build an engaged online audience for your dental practice.

4. Social Proof in the form of Positive Reviews

Nothing builds the trust of a potential patient more strongly than social proof in the form of positive reviews. Encourage every satisfied patient to leave a review or share their experience on social media. A good idea is also to find the best Google reviews and post them as well. For this purpose, you can use the Weave Reviews feature to collect and monitor reviews that you can later use to promote your business through social media.

As for social media post ideas, you can, for instance, create an appealing infographic with the most positive reviews and post it on your Facebook page. Or, you can ask your satisfied patients whether they’d like to appear on your Instagram Stories and tell your audience why they recommend your dental practice (while respecting the HIPAA compliance rules, of course). You can also use YouTube for that. Social proof is a powerful part of any social media marketing strategy, so be sure to take advantage of it.

5. Updates, Dental Awards and Celebrations

You can use social media to keep your patients up to date about what’s happening in your practice. Are there any changes in your staff? Perhaps you’re celebrating a milestone, like an anniversary? No matter the update, it’s always good to share it on your social media. Of course, you don’t have to create a YouTube video explaining every little change, but adding a short Instagram story or posting on your Facebook wall is a great way to keep your audience engaged.

Another great idea is to show all your dental awards and celebrations. Posting that you’ve won an award for your services will boost your brand and spur social awareness, proving that you’re a dentist patients can trust. You can also make things more engaging by live-streaming your experience at dental awards ceremonies using Facebook Live, YouTube, or Instagram Stories.

6. Dental Health and Dental Hygiene Tips

Dental health and hygiene tips provide a plethora of opportunities when it comes to periodontal social media posts. For instance, you can record a YouTube video where one of your team members (or yourself) explains common mistakes people make when brushing their teeth and how to do it correctly.

An excellent idea for a dental hygiene Facebook post would also be to create an infographic with a list of tips you can later publish on your main Facebook page. You can also organize a live Q&A session using Facebook Live or Instagram stories, where you’d answer your patients’ questions regarding dental health and hygiene. Your audience will love it, and you’ll get a chance to show off your expertise.

7. Interesting Facts to Engage Followers

Sharing some interesting dental facts is a great way to engage your followers. What’s more, it’s probably the easiest way to keep your audience busy. All it takes is sharing an interesting article or video on your Facebook wall or Instagram. It will take you a couple of seconds, but it will show your followers that you stay up to date with the dental industry. Of course, be sure to share only articles from reliable sources, like the American Dental Association.

You can also go the extra mile and create some engaging content. For example, you can create a set of infographics or images with the most intriguing dental facts. It can also help to add a bit of dental humor to your content to make it more fun. If you make your audience smile while reading about dental-related topics, you can be sure they’ll remember the name of your dental practice.

8. Any Dental Service Offered

The more information you provide about your dental clinic, the better. Your audience will want to know as much as possible about your dental services before they even consider choosing your practice. That’s why, whenever you add another dental service to your cosmetic dentistry portfolio, be sure to create a social media post about it.

You can also create a set of infographics with every service your dental practice provides, with a link to your dental website. You might even make it more interesting and record videos where your staff members explain each procedure. It will help your patients understand that there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to dental treatment and create an opportunity for your staff to show their expertise and professionalism before the prospective patient even enters your clinic.

9. Questions for Followers

As previously mentioned, organizing Q&A sessions is a great way to keep your audience engaged and let them know you better. From time to time, however, you should switch things around and ask them a few questions. For instance, you can ask them about their brushing and flossing habits or their best (or worst) dental experiences.

You can later make a fun compilation of the best answers and post them as flashcards. You may also create a video where you read the funniest responses. Long story short, asking your patients questions is a fantastic way to keep them engaged and generate some organic movement on your social media page.

10. Promotions, Contests, Giveaways

Organizing various contests, promotional events, and giveaways is an excellent and fun way to interact with your audience. Let’s face it. Who doesn’t like to win a contest or a giveaway? Come up with fun ideas like trivia contests on Instagram Stories or asking your followers to share their most amazing dental stories.

Of course, setting up a contest is one thing. The other is creating an incentive. When it comes to prizes, you can offer your followers discounts on dental procedures, offer them money prizes, or give away gift cards. A contest will help create a buzz around your dental practice and may even attract new patients who might be tempted by the discounts and prizes you offer.
